Trelawny Clinic Formally Announces Six Years of Fallopian Tube Recanalization — A Life-Changing Fertility Procedure Now Available in the Parish
Hazba Medical Center in Falmouth has been quietly performing fallopian tube recanalization for six years, helping dozens of Jamaican women conceive without surgery — and at a fraction of the cost of IVF. The clinic is formally announcing the service to ensure every woman in Trelawny knows it exists locally.

Hazba Medical Center, a private medical clinic located at 10 Cornwall Street, Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica, today formally announced the availability of fallopian tube recanalization — a non-surgical procedure that opens blocked fallopian tubes and restores a woman's natural ability to conceive. The service has been performed at Hazba for six years by Dr. Rojae Hazel, making it one of the only private clinics in Jamaica offering this procedure outside of Kingston, and the only facility in Trelawny Parish providing it locally.
Blocked fallopian tubes are one of the most common causes of female infertility, affecting between 25% and 35% of women seeking to conceive. Until now, the majority of Trelawny's 72,500 residents had no knowledge that this procedure was available in their own parish — many travelling to Montego Bay or Kingston for fertility consultations, or foregoing treatment entirely due to cost and distance.
The announcement comes six years after Dr. Hazel first introduced the procedure to Hazba Medical Center's clinical offering. During that time, dozens of patients have undergone the procedure, with many confirmed successful tube openings verified by hysterosalpingography (HSG) — an imaging technique that confirms restored tube patency following recanalization.

"We have been performing this procedure quietly for six years, and the results have been life-changing for our patients. Women who were told they could not conceive naturally have gone on to have healthy pregnancies. We are making this formal announcement because too many women in Trelawny — and across Jamaica — still do not know this option exists. It is non-surgical, it is effective, and it is available here."

A Cost-Accessible Alternative to IVF and ICSI
One of the most significant aspects of fallopian tube recanalization at Hazba Medical Center is its cost relative to other fertility treatment pathways. The procedure is priced at approximately $406,000 JMD — compared to in vitro fertilisation (IVF), which typically costs $2.5 million JMD in Jamaica, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), which can reach $4.5 million JMD.

CLINICAL SUCCESS DATA
Studies published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (MDPI, 2018) and cited by the Society of Interventional Radiology report that fallopian tube recanalization achieves technical success rates of up to 90% for proximal tubal blockage, with pregnancy rates of approximately 41% within one year — higher than IVF's published pregnancy rate of approximately 24%, at significantly lower cost.

Unlike IVF, which bypasses the fallopian tubes entirely, successful recanalization restores the natural conception pathway — meaning patients who respond to the procedure can conceive naturally in subsequent cycles without requiring ongoing clinical intervention.
About the Procedure
Fallopian tube recanalization is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure performed using a thin catheter guided into the uterus and fallopian tube under imaging guidance. A contrast agent is used to identify and clear the blockage. The procedure is typically performed between days 6 and 11 of the menstrual cycle and takes approximately 30 minutes. Recovery is minimal, with most patients returning to normal activity the same day.
Dr. Rojae Hazel holds a medical degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and has been providing gynaecological and fertility services in Trelawny for over six years.
Why This Matters for Trelawny Women
Trelawny Parish has over 72,500 residents served by a limited number of private medical practitioners. Specialist fertility services have historically required travel to Montego Bay or Kingston — a barrier that disproportionately affects women in rural and inland communities of the parish including Clarks Town, Windsor and Jackson Town.
Women interested in exploring whether they are candidates for the procedure are encouraged to book a fertility consultation at Hazba Medical Center. Initial consultations include a clinical assessment, relevant blood tests and, where appropriate, an HSG to determine tube patency before any procedure is recommended.
